Why should my pet lose weight?

Pets that are an ideal weight tend to live a longer, healthier life. Being overweight predisposes pets to heart disease, joint problems, diabetes, respiratory problems, increased surgical risk and decreased quality of life.

How long will it be before I see results?

The time required to reach target weight will depend on how much weight your pet needs to lose, the diet prescribed and the amount of commitment on your part. Dogs usually achieve satisfactory weight loss in about 12 weeks. In cats it takes about 18 weeks. There may be an initial 2-3 week period of little weight loss due to changes in the animal's metabolic rate.

What does the Weight Clinic involve?

After referral by a veterinarian, you and your pet will need an appointment with our weight loss consultant. A thorough history of lifestyle and your pet's eating habits will be taken and your animal weighed. A diet will then be worked out that fits in with your lifestyle and your pet's individual needs. Weekly or fortnightly weigh-ins at the clinic are important to monitor your pet's progress and adjust the diet if required. Our weight loss consultants are available during normal clinic hours to discuss any problems you may have, either over the telephone or in person. Intensive monitoring, guidance and support will achieve the best results.

How much will it cost?

After the initial health check consultation by your Veterinarian, there are no additional fees for your pets weigh-ins, dietary adjustments and professional advice. Diets are worked out on a cost per day basis - for example: for a 15kg dog to lose 3kg it will cost less than $1 per day.
